Taking out back to back wins at the prestigious Hot Buttered Pro Junior in North Narrabeen, followed by an unprecedented win at the Bells Beach Rip Curl Pro – earnt Joe Engel the nickname ‘Two in a Row Joe’.

This then lead to the first EVER paid sponsorship by Billabong, for not only Joe but also North End ripper, Thornton Fallander. The two can be seen taking on the iconic Nias in early days, seen through the lens of Dick Hoole in the legendary surf film “Storm Riders”.
